Watersprite, the Cambridge International Student Film Festival, now in its fourth year, has already established itself as the world’s leading international student film festival.

 

This is an excellent occasion for you to support your filmmakers by encouraging them to submit their films. Please make sure your students do not miss this opportunity.

 

Watersprite prides itself on;

Creating tangible opportunities for new filmmakers

Acting as a platform to bridge the gap between students and professionals

Providing student filmmakers with a network, in-kind prizes and industry recognition

 

In the past, our nominees have received travel bursaries to attend the festival and past prizes have included, for example, a week’s shooting with ARRI’s Alexa camera, production mentorships, lighting academy workshops with ARRI, or a week’s work experience with Aardman Animations.

 

Watersprite is organised by students, for students. It is free to submit and free to attend. We welcome animation, documentary and fiction films, made by students, and up to 20 minutes long. Submissions will remain open for 4 weeks and close on Monday 25th November.

 

We would really appreciate it if you could circulate this information amongst your students or forward it to other relevant parties.

Guidelines
The contest is open to anyone who prepares a short, funny video for YouTube, which communicates a clear message about climate change.
Submissions must:

• Be humorous!
• Address the issue of climate change. We are interpreting the topic very broadly, so it includes topics like disasters, fossil fuels, clean energy, wildlife (like polar bears), politics, deniers, and so on.
• Reach a broad audience beyond just environmentalists.
• Be an original production.
• Be less than three minutes (including title and credits).
• Posted to Eco-Comedy Video Competition 2013 YouTube Channel at: http://www.youtube.com/user/ecocomedy2013
• Submitted by 11:59pm Eastern Standard Time on Friday, March 1, 2013.

There will be six judges representing the Center for Environmental Filmmaking, Sierra Club, the US Environmental Protection Agency, Mill Reef Productions, and EcoSense. The decision of the judges is final. Awards are based on overall merit of the entries. Judges reserve the right not to grant an award. The organizations listed above reserve the right to post submissions on their websites.

The winning entry will be announced and shown at American University on Tuesday, March 19 at the DC Environmental Film Festival at 7:00pm in the Wechsler Theater. The creator of the winning entry will receive a $1,000 award from the Sierra Club. In the event of a tie, the monetary prize will be split between the winners equally.
General Rules
1. Videos must be the original work of the applicants. Applicants must hold the rights to any music, graphics, or stock footage used in their productions.
Music
Contestants may use any music that they own the rights to or that is not copyright protected to begin with. For example, contestants may use their own original music, music composed by friends, music that is found through creativecommons.org, or royalty free music that has been purchased from a source such as digitaljuice.com. Contestants may NOT use music that is copyright protected (for example, a song by the Rolling Stones) without obtaining the rights to it.
2. Any factual claims or references to research must be credited.
3. If a submission involves two or more applicants, the award will be divided equally among them.
4. Videos must be no longer than three (3) minutes, including titles and credits.
5. Videos must not have received extensive funding from non-profits, government agencies, or private companies.
6. Videos must not advertise a product, service, logo, or name of non-profits, government agencies, or private companies.
7. Upon request to submitter winning videos will be provided in a high-resolution format for Sierra Club to add to their YouTube Channel, subject to Sierra Club's user submission terms and conditions.
Format Rules
Videos should be submitted in the form of a YouTube post. These submissions may be no larger than 1GB. For directions on how to upload a video, please see “Instructions for Uploading a Video Response to YouTube” in the Eco-Comedy Rules PDF.

Insight Film Festival - Greenbelt Award

Insight - which encourages people from all backgrounds to make films about faith has received record entries from all over the world for various awards which will be made at the Festival in March 2013.

In order to encourage a wider diversity of entry we have extended the deadline for our new, prestigious Greenbelt-Insight Award to Monday 5^th November 2012.

 

THE GREENBELT-INSIGHT AWARD

The winning entry will be screened at various festivals in the UK during 2013. In addition two tickets - valued at over £150.00 - will be awarded for the Greenbelt Arts Festival 2013 and to the Insight Festival in Manchester, 15-17 March 2013. (See greenbeltfestival.org.uk)  

 

MAKE A FIVE MINUTE FILM WHICH RELATES TO ‘FESTIVAL’ AND ‘FAITH’

The film must touch on these two key words in some way, but interpretation of the themes is up to the film maker. For example ‘Festival’ can be interpreted as: a religious festival, a birthday, an anniversary, amusement park, bacchanal, circus, conviviality, exposition, fair, feasting, festival , fete, fiesta, frolic, gala, grind show, heyday, jamboree, jollification, jubilee, masquerade, merrymaking, ragbag, revelry, rout, side show, spree, street fair, etc. etc. ‘Faith’ as religious belief, acceptance, allegiance, assent, assurance, belief, certainty, certitude, confidence, constancy, conviction, credence, credit, credulity, dependence, faithfulness, fealty, fidelity, hope, loyalty, reliance, stock, store, sureness, surety, etc., etc. Let your film making creativity flow!

 

ENTRIES

·         Can be made on high quality, professional equipment or on your mobile phone. The judges will assess the quality of the idea and take into account how it has been made.

·         Are accepted from those over 18. In the case of a group, this may be the leader or teacher.

·         2 DVDs of your film must reach the Insight Festival office, Z Arts, 335 Stretford Road, Hulme, Manchester M15 5ZA by 5^th November 2012.

Student Film Festival Returning to IU

Campus MovieFest, World’s Largest Student Film Festival:

 2011-2012 School Tour

Festival coming to Indiana University with incredible prizes, great exposure and exciting new opportunities

(Bloomington, IN) – 3/22/2012 Campus MovieFest (CMF), the world’s largest student film festival, is coming to Indiana University as part of its 11th annual world tour. Students who sign up for CMF can receive everything they need to make a five-minute movie in a week – including an Apple laptop, Panasonic HD video camera, training, and support – all for free.

“We are absolutely thrilled to launch this year’s search for the top student filmmakers around the world, including a new tour of events throughout Europe,” said Dan Costa, Co-Founder of Campus MovieFest. “Ever since we started CMF as students in 2001, we’ve been honored to help discover exceptional talent and bring unforgettable experiences to students, and this year is sure to be the best yet.”

Any student at Indiana University is welcome to participate by simply signing up online at www.campusmoviefest.com and submitting a brief story idea. Participating students experience an unforgettable opportunity to express themselves, learn about filmmaking, and of course, have a lot of fun with the chance to win great prizes and exposure including cash, Hollywood pitch meetings, and more. In addition, top CMF films are showcased in-flight on Virgin America and at the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner.

Students can signup online before moviemaking launches on Thursday, March 22^nd. Students then have one week to film and edit their movies about anything they can imagine. Categories include Best Picture, Best Drama, and Best Comedy, as well as the CMF Elfenworks Social Justice Category, an opportunity to create a short movie or song about poverty and social injustices for a chance to win up to $20,000 in cash grants. 

Movies are turned in on Wednesday, March 28^th and then judged by a panel of CUA students, staff, and faculty. On Monday, April 2^nd, the top short movies will be shown at a red carpet finale at the Buskirk-Chumley Theatre at 7:30PM. Top winners from Indiana University will advance to the CMF Grand Finale in Hollywood, CA, in June 2012.

IU winners are also invited to join the CMF Distinguished Filmmakers Network, a program that provides top students with opportunities ranging from paid content production to unforgettable experiences within the film industry.

During the 2010-2011 World Tour, over 75,000 students participated in Campus MovieFest, with over 250 films advancing to the final round of the competition at the CMF Grand Finale at Warner Bros Studios this past June. Young filmmakers from around the world arrived in Hollywood to attend filmmaking panels, workshops, and an award ceremony with prizes and cash grants presented by a host of celebrities including Elizabeth Banks (30 Rock), John Cho (Star Trek), Jack McBrayer (30 Rock), Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park), and many more.

About CMF

CMF began over a decade ago when four students at Emory University provided fellow students with everything they needed to make movies in one week. Since then, more than 500,000 students have received all the necessary technology and training to tell their stories for free thanks to corporate partners and schools. Past winners have walked away with over $2 million in prizes and seen their films on the big screens at CMF events nationwide, at Cannes, at major Hollywood studios including Paramount, Warner Bros, and Universal, and on millions of smaller screens – including mobile devices, in-flight on Virgin America, and online.

Iris Film Festival

The IU Department of Communication and Culture’s Iris Film and Video Festival is accepting film submissions for its sixth annual showcase, held Jan. 28 at the IU Cinema.

The festival is seeking films seven minutes or shorter of all genres by independent filmmakers and students. VHS or DVD entries, as well as the $5 enrollment fee, must be received by 4 p.m. on Jan. 20.

Entries can be mailed or delivered to the Iris Film Festival mailbox in room 270 of the Classroom Office Building. A panel of filmmakers, media professors and media graduate students will judge the entries. Prizes will be awarded for Best Narrative, Best Documentary and Best Experimental Film. An Audience Favorite will also be named.

The Brian Friedman award, which honors the best film made in a Department of Communication and Culture class, is also given. The award is named after a film student whose life was cut short in an automobile accident.

The film festival is the creation of IU graduate student Amanda Keeler, who wanted to provide a venue for IU Communication and Culture Department students to showcase their work. She said the festival has been growing in size and popularity since its
debut in 2007.

BCT Presents "Bloomington Cycles--Breaking Away" Event Call Out

The Buskirk-Chumley Theater proudly presents Bloomington Cycles – Breaking Away, a day long cycling/film experience, on Sunday, October 2, 2011, 3-10 PM. The event will feature a bike tour of memorable locations in Bloomington from the film (3-5 PM), a video shoot out competition (7PM) and a screening of the 1979 Breaking Away (directly following the video shoot out). Ticket are $15 for bike ride and screening and $5 for the screening alone. A $10 entry fee will be charged to all participants in the Breaking Away Video Shoot Out.

In addition to showing the Hollywood classic, the Buskirk-Chumley Theater is encouraging local film makers to enter their own production. The rules stipulate a theme, the length of the finished film, a prop and one line of dialogue that have to be adhered to strictly will the movie be considered in the competition. The winning team will be awarded a prize. Teams interested can register at the BCT Box Office on Kirkwood Avenue, by phone (812) 323-3020 or at www.buskirkchumley.org and can start filming as early as July 1, 2011. All entries are due at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater by Monday, September 26, 2011 at 5PM.

PRIDE VIDEO SHOOT OUT

PRIDE FILM FESTIVAL ENCOURAGES LOCAL FILMMAKERS

BLOOMINGTON, IN– Seven days, one theme, one prop, one line of dialogue, creative people. Results - a three minute film and the warmth and encouragement of your community. The PRIDE VIDEO SHOOT OUT, sponsored by the Bloomington, IN PRIDE Film Festival is an opportunity for lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgendered, queer people and their allies to make short videos for presentation at the annual PRIDE Film Festival, Jan 27-29, 2011. All budding filmmakers, goofy hams who like to be in from of a camera, serious investigators of social issues, and groups of friends or families are invited to participate in a short-term, good-natured competition of creative endeavor.

“Last year’s initial Shoot Out was so well received,” says Danielle McClelland, Executive Director of the BCT Management, Inc., the private non-profit that leads a volunteer Steering Committee in planning the Festival each year. “The audience loved the short films that were created, and the experience brought people together in a new way to think and create. We’re really hoping to expand the number of films this year.”

The PRIDE VIDEO SHOOT OUT correlates with the overall theme of the 2011 PRIDE Film Festival, “Family: It’s All Relative”. Filmmakers are encouraged to begin developing ideas around the theme now, but actual filming should not start until the competition commences at the Wed, Jan 19th registration deadline and kick-off event. At the kick-off event, filmmakers will also be given a line of dialogue and a prop that must be included in every film. Completed films will be submitted to the Festival no later than 5pm on Jan 26, and will be shown at the Opening Night Screening of the PRIDE Film Festival at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater on Thursday, Jan 27, 2011. The audience will vote on their favorite film, and the winning film will be announced and shown again on Saturday. Registration for the competition is $10 per team.

Campus MovieFest - Make a movie in a week for free!

Hello, Communication and Culture Majors!

Campus MovieFest is returning to IU on Tuesday, April 6th! This is your chance to make a short movie in a week for FREE with an Apple laptop, Panasonic HD Camcorder, and AT&T mobile phone!

We’ll be handing out equipment Tuesday in the Hoosier Room in the IMU from 12 – 5.

Movies are due back between 2-6 to the IMU Hoosier Room on Monday, April 12th. The
Finale will be held in the IU Auditorium on Sunday, April 18th. The doors open at 7, and the show begins at 7:30.

Campus Movie Fest

My name is Brandon Carroll. I am a senior here at IU. I am part of a student organization known as the BAA - Blooming Artists Agency. We are working on bringing the Campus Movie Fest to IU again this year and we were curious if you could send out a simple teaser email to let students know it is coming. The dates this year have the competition starting April 6th and ending April 12th with the finale being the 15th or 16th. New Screening Series in Chicago: Call for Short Films

A new screening series in Chicago is looking for short films and videos. The gist of the series is that we will be putting together programs mixing awesome, new work, with older, more established fare. Theoretically, we'll be screening stuff in all formats, but submissions would be best on DVD, or, even better, e-mail me links to a website and tell me what to watch.

Since the most reckless self-promoters are not necessarily the best filmmakers, I'd really like to encourage all you shy, reticent geniuses out there to send along your work. And ideally, we'll be paying artists what we can - which might not be much, tho.
