Spring 2009 Networking Nights Event Planner Internship – Job Description
Approximately 10 hours per week
Dates: January 7 – May 8, 2009 (excluding spring break)

The Networking Nights Event Planner Intern will assist in all aspects of planning, implementation, and on-site coordination for the Spring 2009 Networking Nights series. There will be 5 scheduled events on weeknights from approximately 5:00-9:00 pm at the Indiana University DeVault Alumni Center.

Major aspects of the job include: writing marketing materials, raising awareness about the events on campus, compiling RSVP event responses, collaborating with various university and community vendors and sponsors, serving as an on-location resource person at the events, and preparing post event evaluation results and correspondence supporting the mission of the Career Development Center/Arts & Sciences Career Services. The intern will collaborate with a student team from the Indiana Student Alumni Association to co-produce these events.

The intern will be supervised by a professional staff member at the Career Development Center who coordinates each of these events and works on a team with additional professional staff members. Desired skills for the position are a high standard of excellence, attention to detail, flexibility, independence within a team, academic or hands-on experience with event planning/public relations, and a positive attitude. Interest in the above listed career fields is helpful but not required.

Intern will work approximately 10 hours per week throughout the Spring semester (for a total of 150 hours), and must be available for all event dates. Time-span and weekly workload of the internship is negotiable and flexible. This is an unpaid internship. The Career Development Center is willing to work with academic departments so the intern may earn academic credit for this experiential opportunity.

The Jack Kent Cook Foundation Graduate Scholarship Program will award approximately 30 scholarships to college seniors and recent graduates planning to attend graduate school for the first time starting in fall 2009. Each award covers a portion of educational expenses, including tuition, living expenses, required fees, and books for the graduate degree chosen. The amount and duration of awards vary by student, based on the cost of attendance and length of the graduate program as well as other scholarships or grants received. The maximum award per student is $50,000 per year and the maximum length is six years.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria
To be eligible for consideration, a student must be enrolled full-time at Indiana University with a senior status and have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, and be accepted into a full-time graduate degree program at an accredited university to begin studies in fall 2009 or a recent college graduate (who graduated within the past five years). The criteria the national panel will use for selection include:

* Academic achievement and intelligence
* Unmet financial need
* Will to succeed
* Leadership or public service
* Critical thinking ability
* Appreciation for/participation in the arts and humanities

Human Resource Specialist - ITaP Human Resources

The primary purpose of the position is to produce and coordinate communications for ITaP that reinforce ITaP's message of operational credibility, articulate value of ITaP's services and activities to the University Strategic Plan, and enhance communication between the CIO and ITaP staff. The Technology Writer and Media Relations Specialist will lead the development and implementation of communication plans and materials such as news articles for Information Technology at Purdue's (ITaP) e-newsletters and campus media, brochures, letters, presentations, web pages, and various marketing communication pieces to convey essential information about ITaP to Purdue students, faculty, staff, and external audiences in an efficient and timely manner. This position will be responsible for researching, writing, compiling, and providing editorial support for annual measurement and metrics reports.

Qualifications Required:
-Bachelor's degree.
-Three years of experience in writing and editing for publication.
-Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience.
-Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
-Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook or other similar software.
-Ability to write explanatory newsletter articles, correspondence, status reports, presentations, and speeches based on technical information for a variety of audiences.
-Knowledge of journalistic conventions and styles (especially AP style).
-Self-starter with the ability to conduct independent background research in response to media inquiries in a fast-paced environment and meet extremely tight deadlines.
-Ability to communicate information to the media that is appropriate for the audience and remains on message.
-Ability to establish and maintain relationships and contacts internally to ITaP and Purdue as well as externally with media personnel.
-Ability to work and communicate ideas in a collaborative manner with editors, graphic designers, photographers, and others.

Preferred:
-Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Advertising or related field.
-General background and/or understanding and aptitude in information technology.
-Experience responding to media inquiries.

Proofreaders Needed

The Center for Survey Research (Indiana University, Bloomington) needs a few outstanding proofreaders to proofread survey documents, web pages, and letters, on an as needed basis. These are hourly positions, and as such carry no paid time off, holiday pay, or health care insurance. Work may be done at home.
Current fulltime IU employees who are paid biweekly, or are professional over-time eligible, are not eligible for these positions. Current IU employees who are salaried or part-time, are eligible to apply, as are graduate and undergraduate students.

Pay rate is $10.00 per hour

Must have general knowledge of all museum spaces and in-depth knowledge of interpretation programs for designated galleries.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provide excellent customer service. Know and enforce museum policies and procedures.
Interact positively with visitors and respond to questions and concerns. Remain visible and approachable in the CFAX and Special Exhibits gallery spaces.

2. Interact with visitors to help them understand gallery concepts and content in Jolly Days,
Robots and at the Yule Slide. Attend special exhibit gallery trainings. Play with children. Implement educational interpretive experiences.

3. Prepare gallery spaces daily for visitors. Maintain a safe and inviting atmosphere. Greet visitors. Provide daily care and cleaning of exhibit and activities.

4. Present programs and interact directly with visitors between 6-7 hours per day.
