2. Internship Fair

GET READY FOR THE 2008 INTERNSHIP FAIR!

Are you looking for an internship this summer? If so, interested students should plan on attending the 2008 Internship Fair sponsored by the Career Development Center and Arts & Sciences Career Services.

This year’s Internship Fair will be held on Thursday, January 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Alumni Hall at the Indiana Memorial Union.

Recruiters from a diverse array of organizations are expected to be in attendance and are looking for qualified students from a variety of academic backgrounds. Last year, over 1,000 students attended the Internship Fair.

Actuarial Internship
Conseco has several actuarial internship positions available at its headquarters in Carmel, Indiana. Positions exist in the Life Insurance, Annuities, and Supplemental Health areas, in both pricing and valuation departments.

Summer interns will gain valuable experience with the company’s products in life insurance, annuities, and/or supplemental health insurance. They will have the opportunity to interact with actuaries on a daily basis, get a behind-the-scenes look at the quantitative tools actuaries use, and see the inner workings of an insurance company.

Strong candidates will have an educational background in actuarial science, mathematics, or statistics. Skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and programming are a plus. Candidates should be motivated, demonstrate good communication, and have strong analytical skills. Only candidates with serious interest in the actuarial profession will be considered.

Actuarial Trainee
The company has several open entry-level actuarial student positions at its headquarters in suburban Indianapolis, Indiana within its Life Insurance & Annuities and Supplemental Health product areas.

These positions will carry the title “Actuarial Trainee” and will be included in the company’s actuarial student program. Conseco strives to present professional and employment growth opportunities through its actuarial student rotation program. The company provides a challenging work environment and competitive compensation.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, or statistics. Computer skills will include Microsoft Office and programming languages. The candidate is also expected to be highly motivated and have strong analytical skills as well as excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Only candidates with at least one actuarial exam and who seek the FSA designation will be considered.

Main Objective: Achieve a store environment that fosters creativity, employee development and the VIBE philosophy. Ensure consistently high standards in sales and service, profitability, operations and loss prevention, and merchandising.

People:

• Recruit, train, develop and coach a productive team.

• Maintain department and store staffing requirements to support forecasted sales and payroll budgets.

• Manage all aspects of performance development (Performance Appraisals, Individual Development Plans (IDPs), Coaching and Counseling and disciplinary actions).

• Recognize and develop talented individuals for advancement within the organization.

• Uphold Company standards and act as a positive role model to others.

Leadership and Communication:

• Conduct productive daily meetings to ensure that daily goals are met.

• Inspire, motivate, and encourage teamwork.

• Effectively delegate projects while at the same time allowing others the creativity to succeed
by making their own decisions.

Managing the Environment:

• Achieve the store shrinkage goals by overseeing adherence to loss prevention practices.

• Ensure compliance with Company emergency and safety procedures in order to protect employees and customers against accidents and incidents.

Merchandising and Display:

• Manage all aspects of the assigned department in collaboration with the Store Merchandising Manager with regard to: training, shipment placement, markdowns, transfers, merchandising and store standards.

• Understand and interpret current fashion trends in local markets in order to generate creative solutions.

• Take an active role in ensuring floor sets for the department are well organized and scheduled appropriately.

The Merchandise Assistant (MA)
This role is an entry-level opportunity within the Buying team and prepares you for your first position as an Assistant Buyer.

As an MA, you will support the daily operational functions within your designated buying area's); support the buying team in managing the overall merchandise flow. You will also learn to develop key cross functional relationships with both the market and internal partners: distribution center, design, and production. The MA is also responsible for partnering with the assistant buyers on all necessary tasks.

Qualified candidates must exhibit strong communication, interpersonal and time management skills. Also must have the ability to prioritize projects and handle multiple tasks.

Shipping/Distribution Center:
Run open order by cancel date daily to check receipts
Communicate late deliveries to assistants/production
Track overseas deliveries
Follow up on all vendor ticket inquiries and Check Net inquiries
Vendor Communication:
Build relationships with current vendor base
Update new vendor list on shared drive
Set up new vendors and send them routing guides and preticketing information
Fax selling to key vendors each week
Follow up with sample requests for styleouts
Return sample inquiry phone calls appropriately representing Urban Outfitters
Samples:
Open all packages and check in samples
Manage all styleout samples and information from vendors
Organize sample racks and closet
Keep tracking numbers organized by vendor name
Request presentation samples of all items on order
Responsible for timely passing of all photo shoot samples and partner with direct assistant for all sample exceptions
Visual Merchandising:
Take digital photographs of all items on order and in development ¡V update with revised samples as they are received Maintain product information and fabric swatches of items on order Keep boards up to date continually checking for changes

Markdowns (Rotating monthly calendar with all MAs):
Enter and revise markdowns
Release markdowns and download to stores
Distribute markdowns to proper administrators
Enter price changes and ticket requests when needed
Purchase Orders:
Enter POs when needed Revise POs when needed
Manage and organize open and closed PO files Distribute PO copies to production
Mail:
Check all mailboxes and distribute mail
Drop interoffice mail off in mailroom Maintain potential new vendor files
Cross Reference List:
Complete catalog cross reference spreadsheet
Compare catalog and store retail prices; report and correct discrepancies
Download skus to IP for direct only skus
Transfers:
Execute store transfers Return transfers to stores
Reports:
Run end of month, season and year reports on a monthly basis
Maintain files for all reports
In addition to the above-mentioned duties, the Merchandise Assistant will also attend Open to Buy, Styleouts, Design Flow and Finalization when time permits.
