Every summer, Columbia University School of the Arts welcomes world-renowned artists and hundreds of students from around the globe to its campus in New York City for a Summer Program of vibrancy, creativity, and artistic breadth.
During summer at the School of the Arts, students choose from a diverse range of master classes, workshops, and courses, and attend numerous public arts events created specifically for the School of the Arts summer community. Programs are designed by School of the Arts faculty and guest artists to engage and appeal to all levels of experience, from emerging artists to professional practitioners.

Film—TV Writing with Jamal Joseph, School of the Arts Film Program Chair (May 24-July 2): This course is taught as a simulated "writer's room," where aspiring television writers will collaborate and learn to develop, pitch and write a television episode.
Film—Auteur Study: Clint Eastwood with Film Program faculty member David McKenna (May 24-July 2): Through the presentation of 12 full feature films and clips from several others, this course examines the extraordinary 50-year career of Clint Eastwood.

Theatre Arts—Contemporary French Theatre and Performance at Reid Hall in Paris, with Gideon Lester and Tom Sellar (May 31-June 20) (limited spaces available): From a base at Reid Hall, Columbia's historic campus in Paris, this course introduces students to contemporary theatre and performance in Paris. Students will visit public theatres and art centers, analyze theatre and dance productions by leading French and international artists, and consider these performances in their historical, aesthetic, and professional contexts.
Theatre Arts—Composition for the Stage: Explorations in Time/Space/Text/Music with Yale Drama Professor Robert Woodruff (July 19-31): A performance-based laboratory course exploring the interaction of time, space, text, music and elements of visual arts media with former Artistic Director of American Repertory Theatre Robert Woodruff.
Theatre Arts—New York Theatre Event: Off and Off-Off Broadway with Associate Artistic Director of Second Stage Theatre Chris Burney (July 6-August 13): Students will explore the elements involved in the creation of theatre today in the historic heart of American theatre: New York City.
Visual Arts—Basic Drawing, Introduction to Painting, Introduction to Printmaking, Photography, and more, taught by School of the Arts Visual Arts Program faculty.
