PAST INTERNSHIP: INPIRG: INDIANA PUBLIC INTEREST RESEARCH GROUP

Brief Description of Company or Organization: INPIRG is the state chapter of the national PIRG--Public Interest Research Group. INPIRG is comprised of students wanting to tackle problems that affect our society, like global warming, voting turnout, cost of health insurance, and many more. INPIRG gives students an outlet to engage in the democratic process by trying to find solutions to these problems and advocating for them.

Brief Description of Duties: My responsibilities will include attending a one-hour class on Monday evenings that will help me to become a better advocate and leader.
I will also be in charge of the college textbooks campaign. This will include several tenets. First I will working to try to find professors who will switch from expensive textbooks to open textbooks. Next I'll be working to promote legislation that will create a grant program for professors to write open textbooks that would be free for students. Finally I will work to make this campaign visible on campus through events and media coverage.
