Amy Bush from the Partnership for Public Service will host an information session to discuss federal internships and job search strategies, as well as advise students on the role the federal government can play as a career. The Partnership for Public Service is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that works to revitalize our federal government by inspiring a new generation to serve and by transforming the way government works.

Recruiters from C.H. Robinson will conduct 30-minute mock interviews at the Career Development Center. This experience will allow you to hone your interviewing skills and gain advice from experienced recruiters.

FREAKED OUT? HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE JOB SEARCH AND MANAGE STRESS Wednesday, April 20, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

How worried are you about finding a job? Do you know where to start? Who to talk to? What resources are out there to help you?

Freaked Out? How to Prepare for the Job Search and Manage Stress is an event hosted by both the Career Development Center and Counseling and Psychological Services. The event will focus on job search strategies such as networking. Additionally, a discussion concerning the fears, worries and stresses of the job search will be conducted and useful coping strategies will be provided.

MOVING TO NEW YORK
Wednesday, April 20, 6-8 p.m.
Devault Alumni Center, 1000 E. 17th Street

The IU Alumni Association's Metro New York Chapter President Karen Stone will talk with students about "Moving to New York" at the IU DeVault Alumni Center (just across 17th Street from Assembly Hall). This event is open to all students interested in relocating to New York City for work. In this session, Karen will educate students on the apartment search process. Karen will provide the tools needed to locate, negotiate and move into your first NYC apartment. Food and soft drinks will be provided.

REGISTER FOR ASCS Q299 AND Q294 - ONLINE FOR SUMMER SESSION I

ASCS Q294:Basic Career Development and ASCS Q299: Job and Internship Search Strategies for Liberal Arts Students are now available as online courses for Summer 2011!

ASCS Q294 is a 2 credit hour, 8 week course that is open to all freshmen and sophomores. It is designed for freshmen and sophomores who are choosing a major or exploring career fields.

ASCS Q299 is a 2 credit hour, 8 week course that is offered open to all sophomores, juniors, and seniors. This course teaches students how to conduct an effective job search.

* ASCS Q398 provides up to 3 credits for your internship
* ASCS W498 and W499 are non-credit options used simply to maintain half-time or full-time student status

PARENTS FUND INTERNSHIP HOUSING GRANT

The Indiana University Parents Fund has donated $50,000 to assist with housing expenses for students participating in non-paid, summer internships in U.S. cities.

Qualified students may receive up to $1,500 in grants.Currently, the program is for Summer 2011 only.

To be eligible to apply, you must:

* Have a GPA of 3.0 or above
* Be a rising senior or rising junior, with preference given to upperclass students
* Be a United States citizen or permanent resident
* Demonstrate proof of financial need and qualify for a Pell Grant; FAFSA mustbe on file
* Participate in a non-paid internship in the United States, with preference given to students participating in internships that are over 100 miles or more from their permanent or Bloomington address
* Complete a career plan that describes how the internship will assist in their career goals
* Complete a budget for the costs of participating in the internship, especially housing costs
* Complete the internship and all requirements of the internship including the signing of the internship agreement. If the internship requirements are not met, students will need to repay the grant

The internship must:

* Be both non-paid and meet the academic internship guidelines established by the Career Development Center (See "Q398 Requirements" at http://www.indiana.edu/~career/services/courses/q398_w499.php)
* Be at least 32 hours per week, and last at least 9 weeks

Application and deadline:

Applications will be accepted until April 15, 2011. The application is available at http://www.indiana.edu/~career/services/jobs_internships/grant.php.
