Technology Writer- IT Customer Relations

The primary purpose of the position is to produce and coordinate communications for the Purdue University Office of the Vice President for Information Technology. The communications should reinforce the message of operational credibility, articulate value of IT's services and activities to the University Strategic Plan, and enhance communication between the CIO and IT staff. The Technology Writer will lead the development and implementation of communication plans and materials such as news articles for Information Technology at Purdue's (ITaP) e-newsletters and campus media, brochures, letters, presentations, webpages, and various marketing communication pieces to convey essential information about ITaP to Purdue students, faculty, staff, and external audiences in an efficient and timely manner. This position will be responsible for researching, writing, compiling, and providing editorial support for annual measurement and metrics reports.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree.
• Three years of experience writing and editing for publication.
• Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience.
• Ability to write explanatory newsletter articles, press releases, feature stories, correspondence, status reports, presentations and speeches for a variety of audiences based on gathered technical information.
• Knowledge of journalistic conventions and styles (especially AP style).
• Self-starter with the ability to conduct independent background research in response to media inquiries in a fast-paced environment and meet extremely tight deadlines.
• Ability to establish and maintain relationships and contacts internally to ITaP and Purdue as well as externally with media personnel.
• Ability to work and communicate ideas in a collaborative manner with editors, graphic designers, photographers, and others.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook or other similar software.
• Excellent customer relations skills.
Preferred:
• Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field.
• General background and/or understanding and aptitude in information technology
• Experience responding to media inquiries.
• Experience creating and editing executive presentations.
• Knowledge of information technology.
