PAST INTERNSHIP: THE BIG TEN NETWORK

Area of Internship: Marketing/Communications
Date of Internship: Jul-Aug 2010
Location: Chicago, IL

Brief Description of Company or Organization: The Big Ten Network is a 24-hour cable television network dedicated to providing in-depth coverage of all things Big Ten. Airing round-the-clock coverage of various athletic events, campus profiles, and on-site interviews, the Big Ten Network is the place to go if you are a Big Ten sports fan.

Brief Description of Duties: As an intern, I will be directly responsible for a number of marketing and communications-related tasks and objectives. I (along with a team of five other interns) will be completely redesigning the company's on-campus internship (creating orientation manuals, PowerPoint presentations, Gmail accounts/documents, and a start-to-finish specific outline of the various responsibilities of the on-campus interns), planning and working August's Big Ten Media Days, managing the company's Twitter account and various Facebook fan pages, and participating in a number of different promotional tasks around Chicago. We also help manage the network's website. My team and I will have to communicate directly and effectively in order to ensure that our numerous tasks get accomplished. In the middle of every work week, my team and I also meet with our Supervisor in order to give her an update on our progress.
