Proficiency and Placement exams in Central Eurasian Dept Languages

There is an important change in procedure this year for proficiency and placement exams in Central Eurasian Studies Dept Languages.

There’s a set date for testing this year – Friday, August 26th. Direct students to the exam registration instructions at our department website, www.iub.edu/~ceus. Registration is needed by August 25th.

We have a new language program coordinator (Asst Prof Oner Ozcelik) whose arrival is delayed. He replaces Ms. Beatrix Burghardt who has served CEUS admirably for many years. Bea will start off the semester for us. We don’t know if one-day testing is a one-time change or will become a permanent change.

The August 26th placement exams are for students who may have lived or studied abroad or otherwise haven’t previously studied the language in CEUS and are unsure which level is appropriate for them.

The August 26th exam is not needed for continuing students who are moving in regular progression through a CEUS language. We’ll still do our usual testing at the first day of class for all students in our intermediate and advanced level classes to insure they are properly placed.

CEUS languages include:
Dari
Estonian
Finnish
Hungarian
Kazakh
Mongolian
Pashto
Persian
Tibetan
Turkish
Uyghur
Uzbek
Exams may be possible in additional languages
