Dear Students,
The IU competitive debate program is recruiting for the 2012-2013
season. Do you enjoy researching major political controversies, arguing
passionately about issues of importance, and honing your public speaking and
critical thinking skills? If the answer is yes, then competitive debate is for
you!
As active members of our program we will build you into
powerful orators and researchers, all while you challenge other Big 10 schools
and Ivy League Universities (yes Harvard) in tournament style debates. Shiny
trophies may very well be in your future.
This season’s topic will have you engaged in discussions
about government restrictions on and incentives for energy production in the
United States. Team members will learn about issues such as U.S. oil extraction
in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, tax credits to promote photovoltaic
solar panels, and natural gas fracturing restrictions.
Our team is open to all undergraduate students who want to
be a part of a competitive team atmosphere. Join us during our callout
meetings:
Wednesday August 22 and Wednesday August 29. 7:00-8:30 PM in
SPEA 276. We will provide pizza, while you provide the intellectual
energy and drive.
Best wishes,
Brian L. DeLong
