2012-2013 Intensive Writing Essay Prize Competition

2012-2013 Intensive Writing Essay Prize Competition

Dear Summer and Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 Intensive Writing participants,

The College of Arts and Sciences and the Campus Writing Program are currently soliciting submissions for the annual Intensive Writing (IW) Essay Prize for students enrolled in IW courses during the 2012-2013 academic year. A committee of past and current IW instructors will select up to two winning essays (one essay longer than 10 pages and one essay shorter than 10 pages) from each of the three breadth of inquiry areas in which IW courses are taught: Arts and Humanities, Social and Historical Studies, and Natural and Mathematical Sciences. The primary criterion of evaluation is excellence in argument and exposition.

These prizes, valued at $150, are awarded each academic year, and nominations and submissions are accepted in the fall and spring semesters. The deadline for essays to be considered for the Intensive Writing Essay Prize for the 2012-2013 academic year is 4:00 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013. Please see the CITL website or the College of Arts and Sciences website for specific information on submission procedures for this competition.

We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to have your best writing recognized by the College of Arts and Sciences and the Campus Writing Program and to help us highlight not only the valuable role that writing plays in the College curriculum, but the excellence of our Intensive Writing program. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Terri A. Greenslade, Assistant Dean, College of Arts and Sciences (tgreensl@indiana.edu; 855-1647)

Laura Plummer, Director, CITL Writing Program (lplummer@indiana.edu; 855-4928)
