Professional Development & Leadership Opportunity for College of Arts & Sciences Students

Want to develop leadership and networking skills? As part of the College Luminaries Program, you can meet successful IU alumni and learn how to become as successful as they are. Alumni who participated in last year's program:

·  President of Disney Consumer Products

·  Executive Director of NHL Players’ Association

·  Federal Judge nominated by President Obama

The College Luminaries Program is a new student organization from the College of Arts and Sciences looking for motivated student leaders. We aim to invite IU College of Arts & Sciences alumni back to campus every fall for a three-day stay filled with classroom talks, panel discussions, dinners, and other social activities. These alumni, called Luminaries, are exceptional, multifaceted individuals who have reached a high level of success in their professional fields. We hope that these Luminaries will provide mentorship to students by sharing their experiences, giving advice, and offering connections.

The governing body of the program, the Luminaries Program Council, wants to identify 12 Hoosier Hosts - enthusiastic and dedicated student leaders to serve as liaisons to the Luminaries. Hoosier Hosts will accompany these prestigious alumni to and from destinations, as well as attend special events featuring the Luminaries during the program's 3-day event in November. As the Luminaries’ foremost contact, Hoosier Hosts will build important connections with and learn from these professionals who developed their paths for success on the IUB campus. The Hoosier Hosts will play an integral role in the program’s success. All students who have a major or minor in the College of Arts and Sciences are welcome to apply!

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email us at collegeluminaries@gmail.com. The application is attached and is due on Thursday, February 20th at 11:59 PM.

The College Luminaries Program

The IU College of Arts and Sciences is launching a new initiative called the College Luminaries Program, which is inspired by Purdue’s prestigious Old Masters Program (http://www.purdueoldmasters.org/). The Luminaries Program Council (LPC), the 7 students on the governing body of the program, aims to invite Luminaries back to campus to share advice and experiences with students. Luminaries are alumni of the IU College of Arts & Sciences who have been successful in their professional fields. At the beginning of April, the LPC will select and invite the four Luminaries – one per division of the College: Arts and Humanities, Social and Historical Studies, Natural and Mathematical Sciences, and International Programs – back to campus for a three-day event in October.

Goals

1.      Create a campus environment within the College that allows for student professional development, mentorship and lifelong connections.

2.      Invite IU College of Arts & Sciences alumni and/or friends back to campus for the purpose of sharing personal and professional ideas and experiences with Indiana University students, alumni, faculty and staff to inspire future leaders.

The Hoosier Hosts will play an integral role in the program’s success. Students must have a major or minor in the College of Arts and Sciences to apply.
