The program admits approximately 40-50 non-Northwestern students every summer. I thought you could share this opportunity with students, administrators, and faculty before our application deadline passes.

* 2 full Northwestern course credits (equivalent to 6 semester hours)
* a four to five member team-based internship at a vetted community-based organization abroad
* a local home-stay
* 24-hour on-site supervision, care, and support
* a comprehensive post-trip reflection and Final Learning Summit at Northwestern
Nuts & Bolts:
* Who: all undergraduates or recent graduates may apply (alumni represent nearly 40 colleges and universities (http://mycge.org/our-model/gesi-alumni/)
* Where: Bolivia, India, Nicaragua, South Africa, or Uganda
* When: June 18- August 20, 2011

Online Summer Courses Offered by the Career Development Center
The Career Development Center and Arts & Sciences Career Services office is happy to announce that two of our career courses, ASCS Q294: Basic Career Development and ASCS Q299: Job and Internship Search Strategies for Liberal Arts Students, will now each have one section offered online during the first summer session of 2011. The 2-credit career courses assist freshmen through seniors with career exploration, planning, and development, as well as with job/internship search information and support.
ASCS Q294: Basic Career Development is designed for freshmen and sophomores who are choosing a major or exploring career fields. The course includes three steps for making informed career decisions:
• Self-definition: Explore interests, values, skills, and personality as they relate to careers and occupational environments.
• Structured decision-making: Choose a potential major or career using a systematic method.
• Research in depth: Discover new information about majors and careers and become familiar with campus and community resources.
This course is ideal for students who want to:
• Explore a variety of majors or career choices.
• Better understand how their personality, interests, values, and skills relate to majors and careers.
• Research particular careers or majors in depth.
• Learn a structured, systematic method of career planning.
By the end of this course, students will understand clearly how academic choices relate to career options.
ASCS Q299: Job and Internship Search Strategies for Liberal Arts Students teaches students how to conduct an effective job search. Students learn fundamental skills, including how to:
• Craft a targeted resume outlining relevant skills and qualifications.
• Write about past experiences in a cover letter.
• Apply interviewing strategies to market their skills and experiences.
• Network effectively.
By the end of the course, students will also be able to:
• Analyze how their skills, interests, and values should influence their career decisions.
• Convey the value of their full educational experience to potential employers.
• Find and use the research tools available on campus and online.
• Prepare for a smooth transition from college to postgraduate life.
Regardless of where a student is in their academic or career development, the ASCS courses will provide valuable information that can be drawn upon at any stage in their future. Students can now set themselves apart from the competition, and do it from the convenience of any location. Please contact the Career Development Center at (812) 855-5234, or iucareer@indiana.edu, with any questions you may have.

2nd 8-week undergraduate course has been added: EDUC-U 212: Media, Culture and Education: A Global Perspective
Announcing a second eight-week class on “Media, Culture, and Education: A Global Perspective” (EDUC U212 Section 35376)
INTERESTED IN MEDIA AND EDUCATION? HOW DOES MEDIA SHAPE AND BE SHAPED BY EDUCATION IN A GLOBAL
ERA? THIS 8-WEEK (2 CREDIT) COURSE PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE VOICES, PERSPECTIVES AND IDEAS
U212: Media, Culture and Education: A Global Perspective
Time: Wednesdays 5:30pm to 8pm (March 9th— May. 4th)
Place: Willkie C (WI) C111
Class Section: 35376
Registration is open now.
This course, “Media, Culture and Education: A Global Perspective,” offers a critical introduction to the various relationships between media and education in a global era and enables students to understand how different individual, group, and national cultures have influenced the making, interpretation, and analysis of media products.
In this course, students will not only be the viewers and analysts of media products, but will also learn to become the designers and producers of media products made for their own use. Moreover, this course will provide opportunities for students to experience different perspectives in and of the media, provided by activities like the documentation of half of our sections from different vantage points with our own designs, performed by the instructor and the students together. We will also compare and analyze data collected from classrooms in three other countries by setting up video cameras to record classes in the U.K., China, and Singapore, producing “live documents.”
This course is available to all undergraduate students for two credits. For more information, please contact the instructor at yimwang@indiana.edu.

Summer Internship with Campus Special
The Campus Special is the industry’s leader in college marketing. We are based out of Atlanta and Chicago and work with over 100 universities nationwide. In 2010, The Campus Special made the Inc 5000 and was recognized by Inc Magazine as one of the fastest growing private companies in the US. Our internship program was nominated in 2009 as one of the best places to intern by Intern Bridge. We are the nation’s largest publisher of coupons on college campuses and recently launched a virtual Food Court for ordering food online at all universities.
As an Account Executive for The Campus Special, you will develop the skills that cannot be taught in a classroom. Gain hands-on experience in account management, advertising, sales, customer service, marketing, and learn advanced communication skills. Extensive training is provided at our 4-day, all-expenses-paid training conference in Chicago where you will meet over 300 interns from around the country, listen to guest speakers, attend workshops, and more! This is not your typical summer internship where students are restricted to secretarial tasks such as filing, faxing, and fetching coffee for management.
Through our summer internship program, we have helped over 2,000 students gain the experience they need to launch their career in business, marketing, advertising, public relations, sales, and communications. Our Career Partners include prestigious companies such as AT&T, ADP, ESPN, Kraft, News America Marketing, iCrossing, CBS Radio, Aerotek, Eli Lilly and more.
