This
is an unpaid internship concerning Office Management, Volunteer Coordination
and Development
New
Leaf – New Life is a 501 c3 nonprofit organized exclusively for therapeutic,
educational, advocacy and support purposes. The purpose of this organization is:
· To work to create and strengthen
programs both during and after incarceration that will both reduce recidivism
and build the capabilities and life skills of offenders and their families.
· To promote better conditions of
incarceration and protect the rights and interests of people involved with the
justice system and their families.
· To advocate policies at the local,
state and national levels to accomplish these objectives.
· To join with groups with similar
missions to bring about policies that favor rehabilitation rather than
vindictive justice as the purpose of the corrections system.
Purpose:
The
Management Intern will execute various tasks associated with office management,
volunteer coordination and development. The Intern is responsible for working
both independently and in collaboration with staff.
Volunteer Coordination Duties:
· Create and implement a
volunteer recruitment plan to recruit volunteers through multiple sources
including the NLNL facebook page, local businesses, churches and other forums
· Oversee and implement an ongoing
training program that educates all volunteers about the scope of NLNL programs
and services
· Email or Call volunteer on a monthly
basis to check in with their progress and needs
· Create performance measures and
targets for volunteer program
· Develop new volunteer application
procedures, and other volunteer-related materials
· Create volunteer training manuals
for each position
· Plan and coordinate the annual
volunteer recognition event
· Schedule and coordinate court and
school community service hours
· Evaluate program results and submit
regular reports
· Maintain a current volunteer
schedule
Development Duties:
· Secure donations of clothing,
hygiene products, and school supplies.
· Secure donations of textbooks and
sell them online to raise money.
· Plan projects to raise awareness of
our organization within the community
· Research successful recidivism
reduction and reentry programs
· Obtain contact information from
similar organizations nationwide
Office Management Duties:
· Update contact lists
· Maintain a database record of
volunteer work hours served
· Organize and maintain office filing
system
· Organize donations
· Assist clients by distributing
clothing, hygiene products, bus tickets, and employment information upon the
client’s visit
Qualifications:
• Reliable, flexible, and able to work independently
• An interest in social justice
• Creativity and initiative to follow through on projects
• Strong desire to help people and enthusiasm for working in a multi-cultural setting
• Computer literacy, preferably with PC systems
• A car/driver’s license is beneficial
• Energetic, empathetic, and ready to do a variety of jobs
• Excellent strategic thinking, planning, and organizational skills
• Superior writing and editing skills, with strong attention to detail
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
• Reliable, flexible, and able to work independently
• An interest in social justice

Time Commitment
• Fall and Spring interns are required to work at least 10-15 hours per week, Monday through Friday, for a minimum of 10 weeks in the Fall and Spring
• Summer interns are required to work at least 10 hours per week, Monday through Friday, for the entire summer
