MSL Chicago Looking for Summer Interns! Application Deadline: March 15

Hello!

I wanted to let you know that we just kicked off our search for summer intern candidates and I'm hoping you can help share this information with your students/network by asking them to apply here: http://bit.ly/msl-apply! The application deadline is Friday, March 15. Our program is unique in that select applicants attend a Challenge Day in our office on Friday, April 5; this is a real-time opportunity to showcase their talent in an all-day competition. Challenge Day “winners” are offered an 8-12 week paid summer internship experience where they are embedded within a practice and assigned to multiple account teams. Combining client work with collaboration on a demanding group project and active participation in our summer training curriculum, the Summer Insiders Challenge offers a strong learning experience and grooms aspiring talent across the agency.

INTERNSHIP DETAILS

  • Duration: 8 -12 weeks; June – August 2013
  • Compensation: This is a full-time, paid internship.
  • Assignment: You will be assigned to work within a specific practice group/department and/or on an account team(s). You will also work with your fellow Insiders on a competitive project (completing a PR/integrated marketing program for one of our clients).
  • Mentor: A mentor will be appointed to guide you throughout the summer.
  • Training: You will participate in a robust PR training program, learning topics such as brainstorming, writing a PR plan, presenting with impact and leveraging digital/social media.
  •

APPLICATION PROCESS
Part 1: Submit your resume through our applicant tracking system by Friday, March 15: http://bit.ly/msl-apply
Part 2: Complete a series of essay questions by Friday, March 15: http://svy.mk/YvZklt

  • Selected candidates will be invited to participate in Summer Insiders Challenge Day, held at the MSL Chicago office on Friday, April 5, 2013. (Candidates are responsible for their own travel and accommodations if selected to participate in Challenge Day.)
  • Candidates selected for Challenge Day will be notified on or around Wednesday, March 20, 2013.
  • During Challenge Day, candidates will have the opportunity to meet with MSL Chicago staff, participate in a brainstorming session, have one-on-one interviews, complete a writing/editing assessment and deliver a mini-group presentation. This is the chance to “wow us” with why you should be selected as a Summer Insider!
  • Based on the results of Challenge Day, we will select and notify the candidates chosen to be 2013 Summer Insiders by April 10, 2013, approximately.

CRITERIA FOR APPLICANTS

DOUBLE EXPOSURE AT THE IU CINEMA THIS SUNDAY MARCH 3 AT 6:30PM

DOUBLE EXPOSURE AT THE IU CINEMA THIS SUNDAY MARCH 3 AT 6:30PM

Love original film? Crazy for new music? Then be sure to check out "Double Exposure," an annual project that pairs composition students from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music with IU film students.

Ten students created original films as part of the project, which will premiere at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, at IU Cinema. The project also features film scores written by student composers, which will be performed by a live ensemble as part of Sunday's premiere.

Check out the trailer, a short experimental film by our own Javier Ramirez, with music by Nick Cline, masters student in composition at the Jacobs School of Music.  The film uses the technique of contact printing, which exposes footage repeatedly in the darkroom.

The program is a collaboration of CMCL, Jacobs School of Music, the Student Composers Association, and  the IU Cinema

2013 IU Supreme Court Recruitment

Are you interested in working with the IU judicial system?

If so, you may be interested in serving on the Student Body Supreme Court of Indiana University. We are currently accepting applications from all majors for an Associate Justice position for the 2013-2014 school year. You can download the application online at http://www.indiana.edu/~court/justices/applications.shtml . Applications are due Friday, March 22, 2013 by 5:00p.m.  via e-mail to court@indiana.edu. Please also feel free to contact the Court at this email address if you have questions.

What is the Student Body Supreme Court?

The Court is the judicial branch of the Indiana University Student Association (IUSA). The Court also adjudicates election disputes, certifies election results, hears challenges to the IUSA Constitution and Bylaws, and confirms the new IUSA executive administration each year. Additionally, each year the Court hosts a conference with campus judicial boards for the purposes of facilitating discussion about the campus judicial system. Court justices also serve as student appointees on advisory boards across campus. The Court is unique in that its decisions have the potential to impact the entire IU-Bloomington community. We encourage you to apply and look forward to receiving your application.

Liberal Arts & Management Program (LAMP) Information Sessions

WHAT IS LAMP?

LAMP is a selective interdisciplinary certificate program that supplements the strengths of a liberal arts discipline with the practical skills of business management. Collaborative and motivated, our students form a close-knit learning community with faculty and alumni.

They are students who are interested in pursuing a major in the College of Arts and Sciences (either a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science), but they are also interested in studying principles of management, business, and problem solving. 2013 James P. Holland Award for Exemplary Teaching and Service to Students in the College of Arts and Sciences

Dear Student,

I write today to invite you to nominate a faculty member for the 2013 James P. Holland Award for Exemplary Teaching and Service to Students. This annual award honors College of Arts and Sciences faculty “who excel at teaching and have a demonstrated history of service to students.”  The award is funded by a gift to honor Professor James Philip Holland, an exceptional educator who gave many years of exemplary service to the students of Indiana University and who earned numerous university-wide teaching awards.

To nominate a College of Arts and Sciences faculty member (Please note: AIs are not eligible.) for this prestigious award, undergraduate students in the College must send a substantive statement, not to exceed 400 words, explaining why they believe their professor deserves this award. Please note: only College of Arts and Sciences undergraduate students – not students in other IUB schools and not alumni or graduate students – may nominate College faculty members for this award. Nominations should be addressed to me, John Louis Lucaites, Associate Dean for Arts and Humanities and Undergraduate Education at asug@indiana.edu by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Your nomination should include a description of the professor’s outstanding qualities along with specific examples of ways in which he/she has demonstrated excellence in teaching or service to undergraduate students.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to recognize outstanding members of the College faculty for their commitment and service to undergraduate students. I look forward to receiving your nomination.

Sincerely,

John Louis Lucaites

IU Cinema Free Advanced Screening

I'm an intern at the IU Cinema, and we are showing a FREE Advanced Screening of the film "21 and Over" TODAY, FEBRUARY 21st at 9:30pm.  The screening is free, but event passes are required through http://www.gofobo.com/rsvp using the passcode: IUFILMJN5S

I know that this film does not necessarily fit our usual repertoire here at the IU Cinema, but a free preview screening can be exciting, especially for the undergraduate audience.  It is also important to maintain a positive relationship with GoFoBo, through which we have been able to provide Advanced Screenings in the past and would like to continue providing free screenings in the future.

That being said, I would greatly appreciate if you could forward this out to the rest of the faculty and students in the Communication and Culture Department to help us spread the word.  Feel free to also share this information with any other groups or organizations that you think may be interested!

Thank you for your time,
