REGISTER FOR ASCS Q377: THE ART OF MEANINGFUL WORK

Course Details:

* ASCS Q377: THE ART OF MEANINGFUL WORK
* Monday/Wednesday, 1-2:15 p.m.
* Section #30938

Course Description:
Q377 is for juniors and seniors who are beginning to think about life after college, and for whom finding meaningful work is of the utmost importance.

In the 20th century, the illustrious psychologist and concentration camp survivor Viktor Frankl wrote: "The truth is that as the struggle for survival has subsided, the question has emerged - survival for what? Ever more people today have the means to live, but no meaning to live for." Now, in the rapidly changing world of the 21st century and contemporary issues of economic, social, and environmental concern, most of us would like to find meaning in our work, and the sense that there is a deeper purpose to our lives. Each of us wants to serve the world in our own unique way, and yet it is easy to lose touch, or never really become clear about, what this might mean for us. In this course we will examine the idea that each of us has a "calling" or unique gift to bring into the world. We will ask questions such as:

* What kind of world do I want to live in?
* What are the personal gifts that I can bring into my work, and to others?
* What moves me to want to act?

Through experiential and self-reflective individual and group exercises from a variety of perspectives, you will be challenged to subjectively explore personal issues of meaning and spirituality and to discover your strengths, values, and passions, while objectively exploring topics such as the economic context of work, the environmental crisis and work, and the idea of "right livelihood." The discussion component of this class will be emphasized, and you will be asked to dig deep in order to develop a unique philosophy of meaningful work, and to discover the calling to which you are led.

Q377 is a 3 credit hour, semester-long course offered through the College of Arts and Sciences. It is open to any junior or senior who has not taken ASCS Q294.

Career Development Center, 625 N. Jordan Ave.

Learn more about becoming a volunteer for the Peace Corps!

The Peace Corps traces its roots and mission to 1960, when then Senator John F. Kennedy challenged students at the University of Michigan to serve their country in the cause of peace by living and working in developing countries. From that inspiration grew an agency of the federal government devoted to world peace and friendship.

Since that time, nearly 200,000 Peace Corps Volunteers have served in 139 host countries to work on issues ranging from AIDS education to information technology and environmental preservation.

Today's Peace Corps is more vital than ever, working in emerging and essential areas such as information technology and business development, and committing more than 1,000 new Volunteers as a part of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. REGISTER FOR ASCS Q377: THE ART OF MEANINGFUL WORK

Course Details:

* ASCS Q377: THE ART OF MEANINGFUL WORK
* Monday/Wednesday, 1:00-2:15 p.m.
* Section #30938

Friday, October 29 is Law Day at IUB. With a record 120 schools (out of 200 nationwide) coming, it will be the largest Law Fair in the country! It is a rare opportunity that most college students around the nation simply do not have. Attending can give you a head-start and an edge on the competition. Questions? Contact HPPLC at hpplc@indiana.edu or call 812.855.1873.

Both events are for all IU students, including freshmen and sophomores. But if you are a current applicant or a junior, you should consider attendance at both events mandatory. Casual attire is fine.

Law School Deans from IUB, Iowa, and Dayton will reveal the inner secrets of their admission processes: “WHAT REALLY WORKS IN A LAW SCHOOL APPLICATION!” This insider information is not available in stores. The panel is extremely informative, and always entertaining---so come early and come with questions.

2. Law Fair, 11:00 AM until 3:00 PM in Alumni Hall.
Representatives from 120 law schools will be here to recruit YOU! Ask questions about their programs, admission requirements, and your specific strengths (and weaknesses). There's only one internship program like this.

That's because there's only one Enterprise. Every year we turn approximately 2,000 paid internships into real, substantial career-building tools. And no, you won't spend your time fetching cups of coffee or making coffee. You'll learn what it takes to run a successful business because that's what you'll help do. Along the way, you'll also participate in contests and competitions with other interns, building relationships, honing your entrepreneurial skills and gaining experience. You'll take on the same challenges as our first and second year full-time professionals. Even better, at the end of your internship, you'll make a presentation to your management team covering the business topics you learned throughout the program.

As part of our Management Internship Program, you must be ambitious, creative, personable, resourceful, fun loving and hard working. As you'd imagine, everyone else in the program is just as motivated as you. If you're ready, the business training you'll receive will put your skills, your attitude and your resume way out in front.

Breakfast included!

REGISTER FOR ASCS Q377: THE ART OF MEANINGFUL WORK

Course Details:

* ASCS Q377: THE ART OF MEANINGFUL WORK
* Monday/Wednesday, 1:00-2:15 p.m.
* Section #30938
