The Arts in Education Club at Indiana University is happy to announce the second workshop in our 2011-2012 series. On October 20th from 5:30 -6:30 pm (location TBD), Mr. Jeffery Allen, Producing Artistic Director at Odd fellows Playhouse Youth Theater, Director of Education, Cleveland Public Theatre, Actor-Teacher, Great Lakes Theater Festival and the Head of Life Long Learning at the Waldron Arts Center, will facilitate a participatory literacy through playwriting workshop. Based in elements of play-building, Mr. Allen will lead participants through multiple arts strategies designed to help educators infuse playwriting into their daily curricular plans. Mr. Allen will present sample language-arts-standards-aligned lesson plans, and assessment and evaluation rubrics coordinated with the basic structures of playwriting.
This workshop will be the first of the Club’s designated community outreach projects. Participants in the workshop will be invited to be part of a group who will take this out into the community. The Literacy through Playwriting workshop is connected to the Bloomington Playwrights Projects Mini Play Competition. Dr. Gustave Weltsek, working with the Waldron Arts Center, the BPP staff, and several teachers from MCCSC revised the event to align with the county’s learning objectives. The Arts Club is taking this workshop on the road and offering it free to any teacher or
school in MCCSC who may be interested in using playwriting as literacy and or would like to participate in the mini-playwriting competition.
This workshop is open to all and space is limited to 25. Please contact Audrey Sams at audsams@umail.iu.edu to reserve your space.
