CMCL Professor Susan Seizer's film ROAD COMICS this Sunday, Sept. 30 6:30 p.m. IU CINEMA


Road Comics: Big Work on Small Stages”  is a documentary that follows the creative brilliance of three stand-up comedians working the comedy club circuit in middle America. Producer & cultural anthropologist Susan Seizer (Communication & Culture) follows comics Stewart Huff, Tim Northern, and Kristin Key as they draw laughter out of the slow quirkiness of lives not made for TV. Both smart and funny, Road Comics traces humor on the ground in what are too often considered the “flyover zones” of middle America.

Part-Time Job Opportunity - Course Assistant


Three paid positions are available for undergraduate students to assist in a course, giving written and oral feedback to international graduate students who are studying to be AIs. The undergraduates will watch mini-teaching presentations of entry-level material and fill out rubrics giving feedback from the point of view of an undergraduate student enrolled in the course. The graduate students are from many different fields on the IU campus: arts, business, sciences, and math.

 

In order to participate, you must be available from 4-6 for one of the two sections; you will be needed for each listed M/W date or T/R date:

 

M/W section: October 1, 15, 17,29, 31, November 26, 28

 

Or

 

T/R section: October 2, 16, 18, 30, November 1, 27, 29

 

There will be a couple of additional hours during final exam week.

 

The pay is $11 an hour.

Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research is an internationally recognized survey research firm specializing in public opinion polls and focus groups for political campaigns and parties, public interest organizations and foundations as well as corporate crisis management and positioning.  You can learn more about GQR at www.greenbergresearch.com.

The Digital Intern will be a member of GQR Digital, a new practice within Greenberg Quinlan Rosner. GQR Digital is an in-house, all-encompassing Digital shop. The Digital Intern will assist the team with various projects ranging from graphic design, online advertising (from idea to design to placement), social media marketing, interactive events such as online town halls, data visualization and analytics, and many other ad hoc tasks both administrative and related to online political campaigns.

The ideal candidate will have some professional/volunteer work experience, including but not limited to: at least one cycle of political campaign experience and work in the fields of graphic design and online organizing.

The successful candidate will possess excellent graphic design skills, communication skills, the ability to manage many tasks simultaneously with superior prioritization skills, ability to work quickly, accurately and creatively under tight timelines and high pressure, and outstanding attention to detail.  Long, campaign-style hours, including night and weekend work as required.

Technical skills: Intermediate proficiency in graphic design, social media platforms, Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word is required.

Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop is required. Experience with either HTML/CSS, Google Adwords, Final Cut Pro desired. Proficiency in Spanish language a plus.

Past office experience, exceptional research skills, and the ability to stay organized while handling multiple tasks are necessities.

Familiarity with MS Office and an interest in public opinion research/campaign management are also required. Applicants must be able to commit to a full-time work schedule.

IU CBT Research and Training Clinic (Free Psychotherapy)


Have you heard about the IU CBT Research and Training Clinic which offers free psychotherapy for adolescents and adults struggling with depression or anxiety?

The Indiana University CBT Research and Training Clinic is located in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Indiana University. The CBT Research and Training Clinic is one of three centers for clinical training at Indiana University for doctoral students. As such, all services are provided by advanced graduate students in Clinical Psychology. Student clinicians are closely supervised by Indiana University faculty.

We are now offering evaluations, and both individual and group treatment for depression and anxiety. All services are currently free of charge.

Indiana University Women’s Contribution to Scholarship


IU Press presents panel discussion with IU women scholars


Please join us September 26 for a unique panel discussion featuring Indiana University women scholars describing the path from research to book publication.

“Indiana University Women’s Contribution to Scholarship” will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the President’s Room at the University Club in the Indiana Memorial Union. A reception and book exhibit will follow from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. featuring Press publications in women’s and gender studies and books by IU women authors.

The panel will be introduced by Laurie McRobbie, First Lady of Indiana University, with closing remarks from Provost Lauren Robel. It will be moderated by Janet Rabinowitch, Director of IU Press, and feature faculty in diverse disciplines, including Maria Bucur, Professor of History and Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Heidi Gealt, Director of the IU Art Museum; Estelle Jorgensen, Professor of Music Education at the Jacobs School of Music; Eileen Julien, Professor of Comparative Literature; Audrey McCluskey, Professor of African and African Diaspora Studies; and Suzanne Stetkevych, Professor of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures.

Topics to be considered by the panel will include publishing and professional advancement; the research, writing, and publishing process; choosing the right publisher for your field; furthering the discipline through publishing; the professional and personal rewards of research and publishing; and the impact of women’s scholarship on the academy and the broader public. Panelists will share their experiences researching, writing, and publishing in a lively discussion of the processes, challenges, and rewards.

1. Save the Date! Fall Career and Internship Fair

 

Wednesday, September 19, 2-4 p.m., 4-7 p.m.

Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse, Indoor Track Facility - 17th Street

 

This fair gives IU students from a variety of liberal arts majors the opportunity to connect with organizations recruiting entry-level positions and/or internships. All majors are welcome to attend.

 

The first two hours of the fair (from 2-4 p.m.) are open to the students from the following Scholarship Programs at IUB:

 

- The Wells Scholars Program

- The Science, Technology, & Research Scholars (STARS)

- The Hudson and Holland Scholars Program

- The Liberal Arts & Management Program (LAMP)

- The Hutton Honors College      

- The Cox Scholars

- Phi Beta Kappa

- IU's Veteran population

 

The fair will be open to the general student population from 4-7 p.m.

2. IU Career & Internship Fair App on IU Mobile

 

Check out the Career Development Center's app on IU Mobile for directions to the fair, a list of attending employers, and more!

3. Career Fair Shuttle Bus

 

There will be a special Career Fair Shuttle Bus taking students to the Fall Career and Internship Fair. Pickups will be in two spots - in front of the Indiana Memorial Union at the 7th and Woodlawn stop and another on Jordan Ave. across from the Career Development Center on the IU Health Center side of Jordan. The buses will drop students off outside of the Gladstein Fieldhouse and return to the Indiana Memorial Union.

 

These buses will run every 15 minutes from 1:30 -7:15 p.m.

4.  NEW Morning Drop-In Advising

 

Monday & Thursday: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Monday - Friday: 12:30 - 4 p.m.

 

No appointment necessary!

Our office is located at 625 N. Jordan, the northwest corner of Jordan and 10th. 

 

Career advisors answer general questions about majors or careers; critique resumes and cover letters; explain what resources are available on campus; and get students started on internship, job, and graduate school searches.

An office hour hosted by an employer is an open, non-restricted interview schedule. To participate, you must sign up through your myIUcareer account. 14. Get Academic Credit for your Internship! Apply for ASCS-Q398, W498, or W499

 

Everyone knows that internships can be stellar additions to your resume. You can also reflect your internship experience on your transcript by taking one of the Career Development Center's Internship Courses.

 

ASCS Q398 provides up to 3 academic credits for your internship, depending on the number of hours you will be working.

 

ASCS W498 and W499 are non-credit options which will reflect your work experience on your transcript and allow you to maintain your half-time or full-time student status while you are doing your internship.

 

The fall application deadline for ASCS Q398/W498/W499 is October 1st.
